| I don’t know about you but after the holidays and the turn of the new year, it takes me a a couple weeks to really get in the swing. Which may be ironic coming from someone who is in a business that typically capitalizes on the “new year new you” resolutions and intentions, but i’ve never been one for resolutions…. We all know that resolutions come and go. In my opinion, the real goal is to feel like you are in a place where your journey doesn’t have to erratically change from December to January. Where you feel confident in the solid foundation of habits and rituals that you have built, keeping you on track toward being who you want to be and living the life you intend. It’s possible, and honestly when you get there, you may feel you are missing out on some kind of club come January 1st. Maybe it feels boring? I promise, your club is cooler. If you are feeling bored, you are doing it right. If you feel like you have two months to change your whole life and identity, take a breath. One thing at time…. The first thing (my suggestion)… Take some time to answer some questions and really understand what you want, who you want to be, and what your goals are: 1. What do you value most in this season of life? 2. Who do you want to be as a person? (Character, identity, how you show up for yourself and others) 3. How do you want to feel in your body? (Energy levels, confidence, self-image, strength, longevity, etc.) 4. What are you willing to sacrifice to reach your goals? (What are you willing to give up or commit to, even when motivation is low?) 5. What are your non-negotiables? (What are you not willing to sacrifice? Time with family, early mornings, chocolate ) 6. Why now? What makes you want to start your journey now? Why is this the right time? These questions may seem like they don’t matter. Like they are fluffy and aren’t going to get you closer to those fitness goals or new dress size. However, these questions do more than make you dig deeper. They actually guide you. Not only do they give you a direction, they give you the kick in the tush you need to start moving. When you answer these questions it creates a compass that keeps you directed throughout your journey and anchored to a deeper why. It is easy to get distracted by life, other peoples journey, information on the internet, fatigue. When you surround your intentions with more depth and passion, you stay more grounded, inspired, and consistent in the journey to your goals. Start here, and if you are ready for step 2, start working your way backwards from the end goal to the first step in getting there. Take action on step 1 only. Until it’s easy. Habitual. Then you can add step 2. etc. etc. etc. Keep it simple, underwhelming, and in no time you will be a whole new person living a while new life… and you didn’t even feel the transformation. |
